A Long-Time Education Advocate For Students
My passion for education began in childhood, playing school with neighborhood kids and discovering the joy of helping others learn. As the daughter of an Air Force Veteran, I grew up in a military family that taught me resilience, service, and the importance of community. When my family settled in Palm Bay in 1988, Brevard quickly became home.

My path as an educator was shaped at Brevard Community College, now Eastern Florida State College, where an inspiring ASL professor encouraged me to pursue Deaf Education. I went on to earn dual degrees in Elementary Education and Deaf Education from Flagler College in St. Augustine in 1999, gaining formative experience at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.

My husband, Mike, and I met when we were 16 years old, working at Sears in Melbourne. We built our life together in Brevard, raising two children who graduated from Melbourne High and continue to make their community proud. Mike has worked in aerospace for more than 20 years. Our son, Thomas, has been a Brevard County Ocean Rescue Lifeguard since 2019 and currently serves in the Florida Army National Guard. Our daughter, Sarah, is at UCF studying Biomedical Sciences and is very active in Student Government.

My teaching career began in Palm Bay 26 years ago, expanded to Edwards Air Force Base in California, and eventually brought me back home, where I have been teaching students who are Deaf and hard of hearing since 2015. In 2013–2014, I was honored as Muroc Joint Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year for my work at Edwards AFB. I also represented Meadowlane Primary as their Teacher of the Year for both the 2019–2020 and 2022–2023 school years. While at Meadowlane, I completed my Master’s in Deaf Education in 2018 to better serve my students.

I have also been an active advocate for public schools through my involvement with the Brevard Federation of Teachers. I understand how legislation becomes policy and how those policies shape real classrooms. I have traveled to Tallahassee multiple times during legislative sessions to testify and advocate for teachers, students, and families. I continue to follow legislation closely and actively engage with our legislators.

Today, I am running for School Board because I know firsthand what students, families, and educators need to thrive. I bring honesty, fairness, kindness, and deep classroom experience to the table. Most of all, I believe in our teachers, our students, our families, and the power of a strong public school system.
